Theoretically, I could, someday, end up with $250 to spend on something like this. But I don't actually LIKE the Lagrima de Luna.
None of the Squirts do anything for me. The Del Ray is nice -- but it's stupid to do in gold. If that design was in polished brass, and the price was, say, under $200 (the regular Charge is under $150, usually around $120 or so), that'd be worth it. But a gold version just doesn't look any better than the brass would.
The Espeja is pretty, but, again, polished mirror silver is silly. Mirror finish polished chrome would be the way to do it. The Del Ray and Espaja are both pretty in their way, but don't show off the precious metal, and can be done better with more wear-resistant, stronger, and cheaper materials.
I think most of them are quite attractive, and I am extremely fond of my Leatherman (which is a Flair, because I open wine bottles pretty often). I do not argue with your aesthetic desire. But... for me, this is like a broadsword made of gold. Tools are meant to be used, and carry-everywhere multitools are meant to be kicked around and beaten the hell otu of.
Of course, I've seen some truly beautiful decorated swords, and armor, and even gardening tools. I don't know whether they saw daily use, but as art objects structured around the pragmatic tools they were great.
And just maybe pure art could justify what seems an otherwise obscene price. If these were made of solid gold that would still take up only half the cost (making some assumptions about comparability to the regular Charge, and different densities of material). And $40K, as a pocketknife is more than faintly ridiculous. But $40K for a piece of art might not be.
I LOST my fucking Flair, and want, so much, to replace it. Does anyone still even have them? I mean, I'm a bartender. I actually USED the flair regularly, although mainly as a backup, because I have brand preferences in wine openers, and there are some very good single-purpose waiters' corkscrews which work better at high speed.
But my Flair, if I remember it correctly, DID have some brass chasing on the screw and the lever. Which may be why I'm reacting so . . . Pavlovian-ly to the yellow flash.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any reliable way to get the Flair these days. Maybe occasional Ebay auctions. The screw and the lever/bottle-opener are indeed brass, the latter etched with grape clusters. These days I mostly use a fancy water-pump-style corkscrew at home, but as with the other frequently-used tools, having one always in my pocket is often worth more than having the perfect tool further away.

That said, if I DID have $40K, that's not what I'd spend it on.
Nonetheless, whimper.
