IAN: Our cat needs a bath.
LIS: I've been saying that for a while.
IAN: But how do you bathe a cat? I mean, I've seen the YouTube video, but I don't want to do that.
LIS: How? You call a groomer.
IAN: [livejournal.com profile] agrumer? Avram Grumer?
LIS (patiently): Yes, dear. Avram Grumer is going to wash our cat.
IAN: Does he know this?
LIS: Naw, we'll just drop the cat off at his house. He's in New Jersey, right?

It's probably just as well you don't know Alice Moyel.

Why does Boopsie need a bath?

She's smelling a little ripe at times.
Also, her white paws are looking a little greyish.

Hmm. I diagnose either kitty litter contamination or tooth/gum disease. If it's the latter, that could account for the recent weight loss despite the increase in thyroid med.

May I suggest that you have someone other than yourselves do the bathing? Not only are you less likely to need stiches, it's also less likely that Boopsie will place the entire blame on you. She might condescend to notice you again sometime this lifetime.

Thus the original pun. I believe in hiring a groomer to bathe the Boop, rather than trying it ourselves.

I remember one time when my uncle was visiting, along with his two cats, who had some sort of condition (not fleas, something else) that meant that they had to be bathed regularly with medical shampoo. Big, fluffy Persian cats, one orange and one gray.

From what I recall, this involved our deep laundry sink, heavy rubber gloves, and probably a bit of yowling (though I don't remember that bit), and a good bit of water.

The result was a pair of wet and incredibly skinny looking cats who looked about as sad and annoyed with the universe as I have ever seen a cat looking.

If you do do the catwashingmachine from youtube fame, you should make your own video.

Two words. Shower Stall.

[livejournal.com profile] jenphalian is the queen of cat washing at Chez Melchert. This weekend, I (stupidly) offered my help in this endevor. Jen washed Grim (the scary gray cat who is mean!) and I rounded up the kittens. Doc is a pain in the ass to wash. He squirms and scratches and is generally a right bastard. This time, he even yowled! I'd never heard such a pitiful noise. This is also the cat who managed to burn off all his fur on his butt due to being retarded around the furnace. Doom, on the other hand, struggles for a few seconds until he's entirely soaked and then sits there meekly and purrs. He PURRS. He likes to be held afterward to make sure we still love him. Cat-bathing pictures are scattered throughout [livejournal.com profile] llama_go_moooo, so take a look if you'd like. :)

(they have to be washed every couple weeks or so because [livejournal.com profile] sideshownate and I have really bad allergies_

Cats don't just purr because they're happy -- they also purr when under stress. I've never had the, ah, pleasure of bathing a cat, just a big sook of a borzoi. Talk about pathetic.
