Yes, I dislike change. And the new "comment" format on LiveJournal is a change. But, for the way I use LJ, it's not bad.

But perhaps I'm grading on a curve, ever since I started looking at Facebook, which is an anthropological experiment in how bad one can make a product and still have people use it. (The other researcher in this study is George Lucas.)

It's an absolutely good change! Now you can click one checkbox and one button at the bottom of the page, and all of the folded comments will Expand for you. You don't even have to be a Paid member anymore.

Here's what I was trying to post before. This is my... fifth try..

I beg to differ. This is was my second attempt to post this reply to your Ron's comment. The first two times it didn't show up at all.
So now I'm trying to post it as a comment to your post.

The thing you have to understand is that simply "making it not work" counts as "not all that bad" when you compare it to Facebook . . .

Test. Posting this as a comment to your comment. Changing my userpic in the process. Seems to work.

ETA: Now editing. I'm using Google Chrome on a Mac. What are you using?

I don't particularly like it, no. But I agreee with [livejournal.com profile] xiphius: for the way I use LJ, it's not a *bad* change, necessarily....

I would probably be unannoyed if it hadn't fucked around with the fonts, especially since the fucking-around produces reduced readability.

it's... busy, but I guess I don't hellishly hate it. Though i'm not quite sure what half of them are. Also a bit weirded out by all the icons already loading.

I don't see any of those unless I click on the 'switch' link (and why would I want to do that?)

Are they incrementally rolling out the comment format thing or something? It's working same as always for me...

It seems to be happening on some journals and not others. It's the new system here, but not, apparently, on my LJ, nor on one of the fiction threads I've been tracking.

Losing comment titles messes up discussions on, for instance, fiction memes.

is it still possible to even put in a comment title? I'm not sure how I feel about "insert photo" and "insert video" being there instead of a comment title, though OTOH I don't really actually /care/ about comment titles.

I'm not so into all my pictures loading, as now my not entirely worksafe pics are on my work machine...

Yeah, I am seriously bummed about the loss of comment titles. It's going to be a problem for communities for sure, something which has been hotly discussed elsewhere.

That's funny... nothing seems to have changed for me. Same LJ as always. What am I doing "wrong"? Is it perhaps that I'm using an old theme?

The new comment style is kind of ugly and scrolling through userpics by picture instead of by text label is a PITA if you have a lot. But I could have gotten used to most of that. My problem was that they shrank the font size on individual entries down to microscopic, in such a way that I couldn't just use the browser to work around it, forcing me to spend the evening dorking around with a custom style just to get to the point where I could read entries and comments. Have they no vision-challenged testers? Could they get some, please? I volunteered (I've done so in the past too, I'm pretty sure), but I don't think it'll help.

Damn this is FUGLY! I can't imagine WHY they felt the need to make this change. i mean what the hell is the use-case to justify expending effort on it??

On the bright-side I can now access icons that I lost when I stopped being a paid user. I'm sure that that is a temporary oversight.

WTF. It did NOT actually choose the icon I selected. Here's another one.

Lack of a preview button means I can't error check my code, in those cases where I need to use mark up for emphasis, protocol / grammer (book titles should be underlined, for example) or to identify LJ users.

Same thing is true for spelling errors, although that bothers me less.

I haven't figured out how to post comments from the comments page itself (and therefore I'm not sure it's possible).

None of the new features (insert photo, insert video, switch) have any value or use for me.

So, overall, the new format is worse than the old one, at least for how I use LJ.
