I was just talking to my snowplowing guy. Besides driving a snowplow, he's also a photographer. He used to have a website with over seventeen hundred photos he'd taken, as a portfolio. The webhost went under, badly, and he lost everything.

He's now looking to start again, with someone who's a. honest, and b. competent. Someone who can set him up with a website which will be able to show potential clients the photos he's taken, but not let folks easily steal them. And he also wants the person hosting this to take care of all the technical details for him, so he doesn't have to worry about it.

Would Frogsmart.com be a good place to send him? Any personal recommendations for decent folks for this stuff?

Making it hard to steal would be tricky. He could just put a watermark into his photos. That might be hard if he's doing it thousands of times, but if he's just trying to show off his best work, I'm sure it would be reasonable.

Most of the flash-based galleries are hard enough to copy from that 95% of potential pirates can't be arsed. Which is really about all you can do. Most of those types of galleries will also overlay a watermark automatically, if you want them to. (Print Screen and Paste will *always* work, if all you want is crappy copies.)

I know nothing about how difficult they are to setup or admin, I just know them from the user end.

I use Saratoga Hosting for my hosting stuff - they've been moving to a lot of photographers of late and do have some prebuilt stuff. That's all I know.

Also, is he trying to sell the photos themselves or his services as a photographer? If he's trying to find work as an event photographer, it wouldn't really matter if someone took an image of a different event. And watermarks are pretty easy

Um, my dad has lots of this type of client for his website creation/hosting business. :) I'll send you his contact info if you feel like giving him the lead.
