Norse ones.

See, my brain is doing this to me. It's only changing one word, but it seems to work better.

O little realm of Niflheim
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.

Darn insidious tunes, some of them have!

Changing two words, actually -- "town" to "realm" and "Bethlehem" to "Niflheim".

Okay, now I'm going to have to go look up Niflheim. And I've caught your ear-worm. *wanders off muttering to self*

One year when Z was, I think, five, he and [livejournal.com profile] carandol and I were putting out our nativity -- I think Z was arranging the penguins. Anyway, he was singing what he thought was a traditional carol but actually like yours had just two of the words changed:

God rest ye, merry gentlemen,
May nothing you dismay!
For Christ our saviour
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from sacred cows,
For we had gone astray,
Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
Oh tidings of comfort and joy!"

[livejournal.com profile] carandol and I both distinctly heard "save us all from sacred cows", and we've sung it that way ever since.

I love that carol. I usually tear up at the line "the hopes and fears of all the years".

I want to record you singing that and put it on a mix with all my carols from the H.P.L.H.S.

This post is not why I friended you, though it has made me howl with laughter inbetween trying to sing it in my best choirboy voice.

I friended you because I came here looking for a post on bacon and homosexuality that's rumoured to exist. I went back skip=200 without finding it, but wildly enjoyed myself on the way. *that* is why I friended you.

(And if you happen to know what I'm talking about wrt bacon and homosexuality, a pointer would be appreciated)

Thank you. That's a really interesting analogy, and I think you're on to something. Now I want bacon, though.

Incidentally, where did you hear of that post? I'm just wondering who talks about my stuff and why.

which I found through someone else's link post, which I've now totally lost because this browser (links) has the bizarre habit of deleting history when one uses the back button and it's too late at night to do another search of my friend's list for it.

Cool; I suspected as much, actually. Far as I know, Bear's the only one who's referenced it recently.
