Root vegetable soup is made by taking a bunch of root vegetables, washing them (that's an important step), cutting them into appropriate sides, and boiling them in water. One also uses salt and pepper.

Actually, I sauteed some of the onions and garlic first, in the soup pot, before adding the water. Other than that, it's got onions, garlic, parsnips, turnips, potatoes, and a couple carrots -- not too many, they're too sweet. I just put them in so there'd be SOMETHING in there that wasn't yellowy-white. And we didn't have scalions or leeks. It's yummy soup.

Yum!

My sister made Green Soup last night, raiding the refrigerator produce drawer to come up with asparagus, zucchini and a few new potatoes, plus the necessary onions and garlic. Simmered in reduced (low salt, low-fat, no MSG) chicken stock till everything was soft and then whirred up with her wand blender to a lovely - and very, very green - puree . Bliss!

Sounds yummy, I'll need to come over this week end and try it.
From the sound of it leeks should work well in the soup.

Just to be technical on you I think most of those ingredients
are bulbs or tubers, not roots.
