So, some friends are throwing a hot foods party in a couple days. It's the same day as the party that my student invited me to, where she instructed me to bring my Chocolate Pie.

Now, I love making chocolate pie, so I've been experimenting to see if I can make a hot version, as well. I just made some chocolate mousse with cinnamon, ginger, and cayenne, and it's pretty good.

The thing which I'm going to have to be REAL CAREFUL about is to not get the two pies mixed up. I mean, if I brought a non-hot chocolate pie to the hot foods party, that wouldn't be a big deal -- people would still eat it. But if I gave a cayenne chocolate pie to an eight-year old, I think she'd be justifiably upset at me.

Damn you, now I really really want chocolate pie.

That's a cruel thing to do to a pregnant woman, [livejournal.com profile] xiphias. ;-)

Er. . . if you were closer I'd definitely give you some. As it is, you're probably not able to beat me up for it. . .

That depends entirely on the eight-year-old in question.  When I was eight, I would probably have loved such a pie.  OTOH, I used to eat horseradish straight from the jar when I was three, so I may be on the extreme end of the scale.

Cool, I'll see you there. I'm bringing habanero'd amaretto.

Maybe add some red food coloring to the hot one?

Well, the traditional way to take care of that, I think, would be to put a dozen or so whole little dried chilis in a ring on top of the hot pie.

Make them totally seperately, and mark the tops very clearly and differently, in a way that can't fall off in transit. Maybe two different shaped pies?

dot one with whipped cream and stick a chili pepper in the center. Just make sure the chili pepper goes on the hot one.

hey, on a completely unrelated note...
I thought Lis might be interested in this article on blogging in the Washington Post today.

Found your journal before hers, so I thought I'd just let you pass it along:
