Yeah, so I got up to about noon for yesterday. Let's see if I can remember the rest of the day . . .

I came home and puttered around the house a bit. Eventually, Lis and I decided that we wanted pizza and ice cream, so we walked down to a pizza place and got a couple slices and a gyro. Then we drove and got ice cream.

Then I dropped Lis off and drove down to MIT at around 4:30, 5 or so. 'Cause I'd decided to audition for the chorus of Iolanthe that [livejournal.com profile] navrins and [livejournal.com profile] greenlilly and folks were putting on.

I got in. I've not been on stage since high school (well, okay, I played a set or two at Cholmondely's at Brandeis, but that doesn't count, exactly). . . I'm moderately terrified. But it's only the chorus, so I'll be fine. I've got a score, so I need to start learning the music for the bass chorus.

Then I drove over to [livejournal.com profile] gilana's Bithday Luau. Which was a blast. I didn't know very many people when I got there, but everyone was hugely nice and friendly, so I knew everyone by the time I left.

Anyway, after a couple hours, [livejournal.com profile] tapuz, [livejournal.com profile] laurens10, [livejournal.com profile] gnomi, and [livejournal.com profile] mabfan showed up, none of whom I see often enough.

(Actually, there's NOBODY on my friends list that I see enough, frankly. 'Cept MAYBE [livejournal.com profile] cheshyre, and that's 'cause I see her an average of 16 hours a day or so. And I could do with seeing her more. But that's besides the point.)

Turns out [livejournal.com profile] mabfan is a huge fan of Iolanthe -- it's his favorite G&S play. He's got the entire thing memorized, can sing most of the parts from memory. I told him he should audition, but he pointed out that he's shomer shabbat, which would make things a bit tricky. He did, however, let me know that, if we screw this play up, he's going to personally beat all of us up. 'Cause it's his favorite.

So, everybody -- if you want to be beaten up by Michael Burstein, just screw up Iolanthe. I mean, he IS cute and I'm sure SOME of us involved with the musical are kinked.

Somehow, I don't suppose that's what he meant, though.

I also got to see [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh and lots of other folks, whose LJ names are escaping me at the moment. I had a total blast, met lots of cool people, and think that Gilly should have birthdays EVERY year.

Gilly also has an inflatable sukkah.

She kicked us all out at 10:30 or 11 or so, because she'd been partying for over 24 hours or so by that point, and needed to work in the morning.

So, yay yesterday. Was cool.

So glad you had fun! I'm always nervous about mixing groups of friends, but it did seem to work pretty well this time.

Gilly also has an inflatable sukkah.
Pop-up sukkah. Inflatable cactus. Easy to get them confused :)

Uh, yeah.

:-)

I've seen MIT do Iolanthe a few times and enjoyed it each and every time. I'm sure this one will be great.

(The Lord Chancellor is actually my favorite character in all of G&S, and I would love to play him one day. But I don't think I have the voice.)

Why, thank you!

Let me know if your LC actor gets sick... :-)

I think that may be the most off-hand "I got in the production" announcement I've ever seen. (-:

Congratulations, and break a leg.

That'd be me, [livejournal.com profile] greenlily, not [livejournal.com profile] greenlilly. I do kinda have to wonder what're the odds that two of us would pick the same LJ name (apparently I got to it first).

Oh, and, not to worry. MITG&SP isn't, mostly, Theater People. It's normal people who like theater. I mean, for some values of "normal". You know what I mean.

Nobody is allowed to screw up Iolanthe! If you want to get beat up, you'll have to find another way.

Not to worry, though. Nobody will.
