Oops. Kinda traumatized cats, I think...

Stephanie Clarkson's cat, small, is staying with us while she's in the hospital. small loves humans and gets very depressed if she's not with them, but does NOT get along with other cats. So we keep small downstairs and our guys upstairs, with a baby gate in between.

We left the house at 9 this morning, and I just got back home at 1:30. And there was small -- on the wrong side of the gate. Somehow, she'd gotten past us when we left, and left her upstairs with our guys.

I see tufts of fur here and there around the house, but, in general, our guys seem nervous but not TOTALLY messed up. But they seem happy that small is back downstairs now...

What kind of baby gate do you have that it can keep out a cat? Mine just vaults them like they aren't even there.

A very tall one, and a very fat cat. You have to understand: small is named small in the same sense as an Italian guy named "Tiny".

Oh, fat, but very muscular. Nick doesn't want to tangle with small any more than I would want to tangle with said Italian guy called "Tiny".

So, rather than "can't jump" it's "doesn't feel like jumping in front of humans" ;)

The gate is about hip-height for me (I'm 5'2"), and we've positioned it right against the staircase for an added hurdle.

I'm pretty sure she was nowhere near the gate when we left.

Which would mean that she somehow circumvented the gate on her own.
