My first attempt at making creme brulee not only failed, but failed depressingly completely. I wasn't expecting the burnt sugar topping to work out. I WAS expecting the custard to congeal at SOME point.

Call it "chilled creme brulee soup"?

Interesting. Don't you do the burnt sugar bits after they congeal, usually?

The real question, though: how did they taste? :)

Delicious.
And so I keep telling him, though I don't think he believes me. [Maybe we can pour out the liquidy bits into a kind of sweet omelette or something]

Does anybody else get really Really REALLY depressed after cooking experiments fail? If so, how do you deal with it? How would you like your friends & SOs to deal with you after it happens?

I've pitched huge crying fits when things have gone kablooie before. A cooking experiment is a project, and a project is a sort of baby, if you know what I mean.

Gentle comfort, really, is what helps.

Oh, dear...I understand the despair of a project like that.

Wanna talk about the recipe you used?

It was your first attempt. It's nice when it all goes well, but the question is how it goes for the next and the next, and whether there's improvement (or at least new mistakes), yes?

Remember the flat cake I made for Ayesha's birthday?

Everything has its weird issues to deal with. I'm sure you'll figure out the ones with this. *hugs*
