Did I ever tell you guys how I learned to read?

Of course, there wasn't just ONE thing in learning to read.  There were street signs, and picture books, and parents reading the Sunday comic strips out loud while I watched, and lots of stuff.

But one of the things was that my Dad read.me THE.CHRONICLES OF NARNIA for bedtime stories.  And I got to help.  At first, I got the one-letter words, "a" and "I".  I got to help out with longer words eventually.

And then, Dad would start "accidentally" falling asleep just as we got to the exciting parts...

For me it was Pogo, with dad reading, and I got to read all the "bugs", who generally had one or two-word interjections.

Then my dad would come home later than I wanted to start reading it, so I taught myself to read the rest of the words...

When my sister didn't show signs of becoming a reader when I thought she should be (she was getting the basic skills, just not really taking to it) I sat her down with the first Elfquest graphic novel, read her part way through, and stopped.
