Which is worse:

Which is worse -- when you make a joke and the person you make it to has no clue what you're talking about, or when someone else makes a joke, and you have no clue what they're talking about?

Neither? In the first case I get to gush about something I like, and in the second case I get to learn about something the other person likes?

Former, since the latter is actually good.

The first. Because in the second case, you can ask, and you can learn something new, and it might be nifty!

Depends on who the people are, really. If strangers, I'd be far more embarrassed by the latter than the former. Which says something about me and my assumptions, actually.

Oh, most definitely the former. 'Cause I feel like I have to explain it till they get the joke. Which is a trillion shades of awkward.
