I have read and liked them, even though I had no idea where any of the places were or how to pronounce most of the names.

I'm confused. A whole heckuva lot of people have read the Stieg Larsson books that have been on bestseller lists, made into movies, and apparently into fanfic written by Nora Ephron. In the Stieg Larsson universe everyone calls Mikael Blomkvist "Kalle" because everyone has read the Astrid Lindgren books about Kalle Blomkvist.

Is there something in the Nora Ephron fanfic that indicates that Nora Ephron has read the Astrid Lindgren series rather than just used the same name that everyone uses in the Larsson books?

i have never read these Larsson books, so this is the first i know that the dude in them is called this, rather then just Nora Ephron calling him that...

Yes, one of the two main characters is named Mikael Blomkvist, or however you spell that. He's an investigative journalist, and has an unfortunately youthful face. Because of that, after his first big break, everyone started calling him Kalle Blomkvist, after the character. He HATES that nickname, but can't get rid of it.

Naturally, when Lisbet refuses to stop calling him that, he starts calling her "Pippi".

Ah. In that case the fanfic overall is probably not that funny to you, either. =P

Oh, I think you have to actually LIKE the books in order to enjoy this particular poking-fun-at. If a person didn't like the books, a person wouldn't have read enough of the books to get why the whole thing is funny.
