The bit where the local Obama campaign person told me that if I hated the NDAA then I should really want to make sure we don't hand that scary power to one of the wingnuts was definitely the low point of that discussion.
Obama's economic policies are closer to Reagan's than Eisenhower's. It would be NICE to have a president who was willing to pour as much money into infrastructure as Eisenhower did.
Partially ironically, but also in that he actually comes closest to displaying some of the values that most Republicans I know actually hold dear.
Is there anyone running on the Republican side who actually espouses actual "conservative" values, as people I know would call them? Obama comes closer than the actual Republicans.
Obama's too conservative for my tastes, but the actual Republican candidates are in no sense conservative -- they're generally radicals. Except, maybe, Mitt, but who KNOWS what HE thinks?
Well... it's not as though it's a really competitive race. But I know what you mean about him in relation to traditional Republican values (as opposed to the crazy dudes who are running for the Republican nomination).
