This has been an interesting weekend, most of which I can't talk about here because it's all about other people. In general, though, the tone has been "significant, and not always pleasant, stuff happening to people I care about, to which they are responding with grace and intelligence." And in some cases, it's significant and pleasant stuff happening to people I care about, to which they are responding with grace and intelligence.

No Hebrew School teaching today, so I went into school anyway to clean up my classroom. When I got home, I made potato soup.

Friday night, there was The X2 Fiasco, in which we convinced teddywolf and the person he was hanging out with (whose name I did not get permission to mention, so I won't, even though I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem if did) to come out and see X-Men 2 with us. Then, when we got to the theater, Lis got sticker shock at the ticket prices. See, Lis has hard price thresholds which she is not willing to go over. $19 for two tickets -- $9.50 a ticket -- is over that threshold. Lis simply cannot spend over $8.50 for a movie ticket. I think she might be able to spend $8.75, but I'm not certain. I know she can't spend $9. And I'm the same. I couldn't spend that much, either. So, we convinced two people to go to the movies with us, then refused to go to the movies.

So, today, Lis and I made it to a matinee showing -- $5.75/ticket, which is much less painful. It's a good movie. Possibly even worth $9.50/ticket. But I still wouldn't have been able to pay it. Any more than Lis could.

Later on, we're going to go over to Mystery House for games night. I'm bringing a "just because I like you folks" cheesecake. It's partially a "sorry for inviting you out ot the movies, then not going to the movies" cheesecake, but it's mainly a "just because I like you folks" cheesecake. And because making cheesecake is fun, and it's really not something I can justify making for just Lis and me. . .

Heh. Be glad you're not in New York, where regular showing tickets have been over $10 for a couple of years and matinees basically don't exist.

Like I said last night, It's OK. I know all about sticker shock, I experience it shopping from time to time. Far as I'm concerned we should all agree to write that half-hour or so off as an unpleasant anomaly and just say the rest of the evening was fun (which it was) - I'm willing if you are.

Thank you for bringing over the cheesecake. Help with the snackage is very much appreciated.

BTW, where'd you find the $5.75 matinee? I know the theater we tried the first time charges $6.50.
