Yeah, today is election day.

There are zero contested elections in my precinct and ward. Mayor Rob Dolan is running unopposed, which doesn't bother me -- if he DID have an opponent, I'd be voting for Mayor Dolan, anyway. I can't think of any particular thing I'd change about the way Mayor Dolan runs city hall. There are three school board members running for re-election their three seats on the school board. And our local alderman.

The only reason to go would be for the bake sale that they usually have there. And to have, y'know, voted. Because voting is good.

I guess that's a good enough reason, anyway. But mainly the bake sale.

Think about how I feel. We don't have an election at all.

It was your facebook status that reminded me that today IS election day, and I went and looked up to see if we had an election here, and discovered that the answer is, "um, well, kinda. . . "

Your town does not have aldermen-at-large?

Each ward has an alderman. Only Ward 7 has a contested election this time around; I'm in Ward 1, Precinct 2.

What I meant was, you don't have both ward aldermen and aldermen-at-large (like Somerville does)?

Oh, yeah, we do, but there's no vacancy this cycle.

At 8 AM I was voter #4 in my district. If there had been a bake sale, that would've made my day. Alas. :( So I'm a bit envious.

In Oregon all voting is by mail. We got our ballots in the mail about 3 weeks ago and I mailed mine back last week.

I opted not to vote because three of the four races on my ballot were uncontested, and the fourth (the alderman-at-large race in Somerville) pitted four people whose names I sort of recognize against four people whose names I totally didn't recognize. I'm not someone who believes that voting is always useful when one is just picking blindly among names. I still remember how we got Wrong Don Yarbrough on the Texas Supreme Court.
