Stores that inspire confidence
May. 8th, 2003 12:02 pmMom came over for lunch yesterday. We went to Peking Garden in Malden, which has become my favorite Chinese buffet in the area. Mom keeps more kosher than I do; when she goes out to restaurants, she eats vegetarian. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough for her to eat, but there was plenty.
Mom asked one of the staff whether the lo mein was vegetarian. Her answer was, "It has eggs."
THAT is an answer which inspires confidence. It really suggests that the waitress actually UNDERSTOOD the question, and that Mom wasn't going to have to play the twenty-questions game that vegetarians often find themselves playing at restaurants ("Does it have chicken in it? What about fish?"). "It has eggs." I was impressed.
Today, I finally got around to having my knives sharpened. At $2/blade, I figured, why bother doing it myself? When I dropped all the knives off, I saw their handwritten price list on the wall. One line said, "Swords: $5/foot".
I don't know why, but THAT inspired confidence in me. They charge by the foot for swords. I don't know why I find that so cool, but I do.
