It really is too easy to ridicule what the Rev. Pat Robertson sometimes says. It's a bit like making fun of a man who mumbles stuff to himself on the subway about Martians, moon landings and 9-11. It's kindest—it's smartest—just to look away.

But millions of people regard Mr. Robertson as a source of wisdom, even though few people I can think of have said so many seriously dotty or malicious things during moments of epochal distress.

I was looking at this and thinking that even though both Limbaugh and Robertson have a large following, it doesn't seem to be deterring the majority of folks from donating to help Haiti. (Well, not that Robertson was technically saying *not* to help Haiti. He wants his "flock" to help the Haitians to be "saved" so their lives will become magically hunky-dory and not under some demonic curse.) Perhaps the average person may still want to judge others, but still can't bare to see them actually suffer.

Yes, THIS. Oh, if I think about it too long I'll just explode with rage. Millions of people listen to him and millions more to Limbaugh; they aren't mere private citizens with opinions, they are demagogues who can shape public opinion for good or ill and are choosing ill.

And to think I ever sent him money. ARGH. I was a kid and know better now, but I still feel bad about it.
