Think about it. Massachusetts has an OPEN senate seat. The Massachusetts Republican party has nobody to put up for it. They USED to have Mitt Romney. Romney burned all his Massachusetts bridges by badmouthing us during his attempt to get the presidential nomination. He's less popular than sewage outflow right now -- after all, the Deer Island Waste Water Treatment plant provides more jobs than Mitt ever did.

He must be kicking himself right now. He woulda had a chance to be a Senator.

Nor is Markey. They both are in charge if important, powerful committees, and don't want to give that up.

Makes sense to me.

I'm looking forward to finding out who is going to run.

I've been pretty happy with Mike Capuano in the House, so I wouldn't mind seeing him run for the Senate seat.

Yeah, I just like to hear Barney Frank talk.

Because of his weird accent, or because of the novelty of hearing a public servant who makes sense?

More his style of speaking than his accent. Also the public servant that makes sense thing.

I heard Barney Frank speak at Wellesley my senior year. It was a hoot, not to mention educational.

ANYTHING is possible at this point.

Personally, I'm hoping for me.

I'd vote for you. Especially since I'm a registered Fl voter. That'll def. help your chances :)

Let's see: his widow doesn't seem interested in the job; his nephew is in the House, but from Rhode Island; Caroline probably lost any chance at it last year in New York. But he has quite a few relatives, depending on how closely you define "relative."

Patrick Kennedy, the congressman from RI, is Ted's son. I'll admit, it's hard to keep all the Kennedys straight.

Joseph Kennedy II (one of RFK's sons) was a Congressman from MA a decade plus ago, so he's definitely got experience. However, he's refused to run for governor on several occasions, saying he's quite content doing what he's doing (Chairman of Citizens Energy). Since this is Uncle Ted's seat, though, maybe it'll be enough to get him to run.

Romney actually challenged Kennedy back in 1994.

I'm looking into what it would take to run for the open seat, but most likely I'll just stay in Brookline Town Meeting. Running for the Senate requires a lot of free capital.

That would help if you were still a Massachusetts resident. :-)

Seriously, just as important as votes would be fundraising. Without the money to mount a proper campaign, I wouldn't be able to get any traction.

Massachusetts has an OPEN senate seat. The Massachusetts Republican party has nobody to put up for it.

I'm sure the right inducements could convince Alan Keyes to rejoin the Republicans for another run at elected office.

The name "Alan Keyes" makes me think of all the people that tried (some still trying) to get money out of my Mom.

Here's a

Well, if they could appoint someone temporarily to keep the seat filled until an election, with the requirement that the seat-filler not run, I think that they ought to try to get Dukakis.
