Very true. It might not in fact be my family's tartan. The above is the MacLeod of Lewis tartan, and there's some confusion as to whether we're members of that clan or the MacLeod of Harris clan (their tartan is below).
I think you're vastly overestimating how seriously modern Scots take any sense of entitlement to tartans. Heck, most of my friends in Glasgow and Edinburgh couldn't tell you their clan at gunpoint, much less identify their family tartan (if they even have one).
In short: wear it if you want. Nobody is going to get bent out of shape over this one.
Oh, that's silly. Of course you can wear it. I read the description as emphasising the Jewish rather than the Scottish. And anyway, as yehoshua says, modern Scots are not nearly so discriminating about such things.
