So, getting Lis out the door in the morning is always a challenge.

Today, the specific distraction was my fault.

Last night, I mentioned to her Willie Mays's famous 1954 World Series outfield catch. Where he made it from the close outfield to the wall fast enough to catch a ball that was obviously going to be an inside-the-park home run. And THEN managed to spin and throw it fast enough to make the double play (which is, frankly, just as impressive a feat as the original catch, given how long the ball had been airborne). So Lis spent the morning watching YouTube video of it, including clips from Ken Burns, reading the Wikipedia page on it, and looking up Mays's career stats (summary: when Mays, on his Hall of Fame introduction, was asked who the best player he'd seen was, he thought, and said, "Not to be bashful, but, well, me." And he was so obviously correct that it didn't even seem arrogant.)

And about how Mays was, besides being one of the greatest players of all time, was ALSO a good showman -- he deliberately wore a baseball cap that didn't fit right, so that it would fly off his head on his most acrobatic plays, to add to the drama. Which made her think about Manny, who is also a fantastic player with a flair for the dramatic, and she started watching YouTube video of Manny fielding, including the double-play where he jumped to the wall to catch the ball, high-fived a fan standing right there, THEN spun and threw and made the double play.

So, eventually, I came into the bedroom to make her get off the computer and start getting ready for work.

After a bit, Lis was standing topless in front of her closet with a vaguely confused look on her face. "What was I just looking for?" she asked.

"A shirt, dear."

"Oh, right."

Except of course that the runner doesn't get to start running until the ball has been caught. Still, the distance made it an impressive throw.

So you made your wife think about something interesting, and spend time topless? Sounds like a win to me.
