Donald Rumsfeld made noises today which sounded, to me, a little like "Hey, Syria, if you don't stop shipping arms to Iraq, we're gonna smack you, too!"

So, sometime soon, the United States may be at war with Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, and Syria. Give you three-to-eleven odds that the draft comes back before this is over.

Personally I'd find a draft surprising. This administration's attitude seems to be "Step aside and give us professionals all the support (and power) we need to handle this," rather than "We all need to help and make actual physical sacrifices to handle this." Of course if it spirals out of all control things could change - but it's hard to see how we genuinely could get forced into a war that doesn't suit the Administration's purposes. And I don't think war with Syria will be worth a draft (which would greatly increase the backlash factor).

I do wish the Bush administration wasn't doing its best to provoke exactly the results bin Laden most likely wanted -- all-out war between the western powers and the Islamic world. If he's still alive he's got to be chuckling up a storm. Why should he bother to strike again? One strike seems to have been enough.

The thing is, Bin Laden and Bush want exactly the same thing. They've got different ideas about which side should win, but they're both promoting the same fight card.

They also made a "Iran must stop trying to develop weapons of mass destruction" quote that came along from all that as well.

And we have an economic war building with France....

You're right. When I first thought of this, I did include "Iran, and, who knows, maybe even France."

I just don't see how we could possibly be at war with BOTH Iran and Iraq at the same time.

Wait. . . Bush said it himself, "I'm a uniter, not a divider!"
