Iraqi officials are claiming 207 injured in the bombing of Bahgdad, which is an amazingly low number. According to an NPR reporter who saw the injured, they look like they were injured by Iraqi anti-aircraft fire, not American or British bombs or missiles. Which relieves me quite a bit.

Although I do wonder how you tell the difference.

Anti-aircraft fire would be probably caused by 20mm (or similarly large) bullets. Wounds from exploding bombs or missiles would be caused by rubble, the explosion itself (burns) or oddly-shaped shrapnel or other wreckage.

Although I'm a bit curious as to how anti-aircraft fire is injuring people. Are they on roofs? Are Iraqi gunners trying to shoot down missiles on their way into the city? Strange.

Falling ack-ack shells -- a certain percentage of shells fired will fail to blow up at the height they're preprogrammed to explode at, and will blow up when they hit the ground.

Oh, okay. I dunno, then. Smaller bits of shrapnel? "Made In Iraq" burned into their skin backwards, from where it was stamped on the shell casings? Hum.

Well, it's a nice thought, anyway, that it might not be us, although I'm sure the toll of our attacks will become clear later.
