One of the hardest parts about Boopsie's death is that so many of my reactions and habits are based around that cat.

"Oh, I shouldn't put this here or Boopsie will . . .no, she won't."

"If I do this, the cat could . . . no, she couldn't."

I'm cleaning up the floor where she messed when she lost bowel control, and using bleach. And I keep thinking how I really better keep that door closed so the cat doesn't have to deal with the bleach. . .

I'm so sorry . . . Losing a pet is really hard. I hope it gets easier soon.

The Natures Miricle company makes something especally for cleaning up animal urine.

It will take a while after for your brain to register the loss. After Darth Kitty died, my husband put food in his bowl, and the next time we went to the store, we bought cat litter. It will get better, slowly it will. I will try to lj cut funny pet stories for a while.

We have the gallon jugs of Nature's Miracle. Believe me, we know that stuff well.

Don't feel you have to lj-cut stuff on my behalf. Knowing that other adorable animals are out there is a good thing. I guess I can only speak for myself, and not for Lis, but, to me, I like cute pets and funny animal stories as much as ever, even if our cute pet died.

If you feel the need to cuddle, something furry, you have plenty of options. Right now I have one on the floor using my foot as a pillow and the other using my foot as a bed.

I don't know if you've lost a parent or someone else really close to you. After my father died, I kept seeing him on the street or in a crowd... oops, no, can't be, that's someone else. Similarly with my uncle.

It doesn't necessarily change with age -- my father died 1968, my uncle 2001 -- but it does abate with time.

I find this about serious breakups. And in none of those cases was I mourning as many years of relationship as you've had with Boopsie.

I know just what you mean. I still sometimes think, as I'm closing a door, "I should make sure there aren't any cats in the room first." And I haven't lived with a cat for three years.

It's a pity you're going away so soon, because the fastest cure I know for that is to stop at Animal Friends (or similar) and get another cat....

No; we're not getting another cat.

That doesn't mean, of course, that another cat isn't going to get us -- but I won't go seeking one.

Grandma Rose used to see her cat for years and for years she was always careful opening the door so he would not escape into the hall. Whitey was an escape artist extraodinaire.
