A thought on Mister Rogers
Feb. 28th, 2003 12:59 pmI've been thinking about Mister Rogers, and I thought I'd mention my Mister Rogers story. . .
I guess it was sometime around 1990 or so. I was a teenager. My father is a contractor, and he was up at the granite quarries in Vermont, buying granite for a house he was building.
While he was there, he noticed someone in a stylized postal uniform. It was Mister McFeeley. They were filming a bit on how granite is quarried. Because, y'know, kids are interested in that sort of thing.
So Dad got an autographed picture of Mister McFeeley. Two, actually -- one for my sister, and one for me. Mister McFeeley asked how old my father's children were; Dad said, "Eleven and sixteen," which didn't surprise Mister McFeeley much. They signed lots of autographs for teenagers and adults.
