So, at Arisia, there was a BPAL meet-up on Friday night. It was right next to the gaming room.
Wow. Two rooms with offensive enough smells to make them un-enterable right next to each other.

To my nose, the BPAL room smelled worse.

But..I'm not a gamer and I don't do BPAL.

I'm afraid I remain stubbornly unoffended.

At least I got to find out what all the people on my list are talking about re the BPAL. Weren't beanie babies and magic cards easier?

Nah, I'm sure you'll miss a couple. Hell, I'd probably even agree with you.

I've developed so damned many sensitivities

that I'm scared to try BPAL. Plus I'm broke all the time, and can't afford any. It sounds as if your con experience was...mixed this time.

All con experiences are mixed. All experiences are mixed. In general, my con was good.

Conventions are like a bawks of chaw-clits. Or a jar of mixed nuts, I can never tell.

I was once at a sysadmin conference in New Orleans that was sharing the hotel with the Mary Kay regional sales meeting.

Oh, those elevator rides were olfactory experiences, I must say.

I'm a gamer who uses BPAL. Not offended, sorry. Then again, I shower and have some awareness of others' senses.

But that way people who are sensitive to odor in general could avoid the whole thing!

Didn't offend me, either - but, then, I'm not a gamer (since your high school days), wasn't at the con, and don't even know what BPAL is. (Please inform, so I won't be an over-the-hill-out-of-the-loop-fuddy-duddy-of-a-mommy - although, it is probably hopeless anyway if I use the term "fuddy-duddy".) You reminded me, though - time to take a shower. Glad you had fun, son. (Or is it, "glad you had fon, sun"?)

BPAL == Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, a very popular (among certain crowds) perfume manufacturer

So *that* explains why the gathering was a "meet 'n' sniff". I figured it was a furry get-together (you can guess where the sniffing part comes in here :) Although "black labs" says "mad scientists" to me, not furries, so I was totally confused by the description. And no, I did not go to it, thankfully now, since my nose is easily irritated by most perfumes.

Thanks for sending the website. Fascinating - I love the art work. Reminds me of Edward Gorey and Oscar Wilde. The scents sound good, too - deep and musky, many of them. Now I know why [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] said he couldn't go into the BPAL room, although I don't think I would find it offensive or unenterable.

I can handle the dusky, musky scents if they're not too strong. It's the sweet scents and florals, especially lavender, that send me screaming from the room, the hallway outside the room, and if strong enough, the floor the room is on. Too bad; it looks like it could have been fun, had I been at the con at all.

So, not offended, either.

offended?
