And, to the two people one my friends list -- both Jewish -- whose birthdays were today -- um. . . happy birthday?

At the end of Yom Kippur, we are in the state of greatest harmony with the world, with G-d, and with each other that we have all year.

Guess how long Lis and I lasted before having a fight?

Who put your money on -15 minutes? Yeah, Lis and I started arguing right after Nillah, and before Ma'ariv. Not only before we left the shul, but actually before the services were over. Annoyingly, all of Lis's totally irrational and totally unfounded things that she said ended up happening, proving that she was right. . . Lis and I fight a lot. But I think we're both cool with that fact. So long as both people fight a lot, and it's not unbalanced where one person fights and the other person curls up and withdraws, and both people are comfortable with fighting, and the fighting is basically fair, and there is never, ever, ever even the HINT of the threat of violence, I think it's okay. Which is how we do it.

Mind you, as I realized shortly after we started arguing, I think I had my monthly bout of PMS tonight -- possibly exacerbated by the fast.

[I had been concerned that my period might start while at services. Looks like I was thinking a little premature...]

you could have been me, nearly doubled over with really bad cramps all day. But given that I had a really bad round of PMS this time, maybe it was better to have my period...

sigh. stooopid girlstuff.

Thanks for holiday wishes. Mine got rather swallowed up by the house move, sadly.

I guess if both people are okay with that kind of fighting, then there's nothing else to be said by an outsider. Personally I find it wearing if it happens too often.

I think the incidence of marital fights just post-YK is staggeringly high, based on what I usually see in my own home and the shul cloakroom. Probably has a lot to do with low blood sugar making everyone cranky.

That's just what I was thinking...low blood sugar and dehydration makes me irritable, and I'm just kind of sullen by the end of it all. I was today! Anyway, there are as many different kinds of relationships as there are people, and as long as it works for both of you, then it's the right one. Thank you for the holiday wishes, and I send them right back to you.
