So, you know that thing where you sneeze or cough or laugh or something and you pop something in your ribcage and it feels like a stitch in your side, only right up under the floating ribs and it hurts whenever you move for like a couple days?

Yeah. That thing.

Ouch.

So long as I don't move, I'm okay. I can either lie down on the bed, in certain positions, and read, or I can sit very straight at the computer and type, so that's not so bad. But still. Owie.

Also, I'm not able to cook, which means that Lis is likely to starve since she doesn't like to feed herself. I mean, a couple days ago, she waited for an hour and a half for me to toast and butter an English muffin for her, rather than doing it herself. She says that she does know HOW to make toast in the toaster, but that she'd rather I do it, because I butter it better.

I have done that before, and it is NOT FUN. :-( Heal quickly!

I've never heard of that but it sounds painful. May it take less time to heal than expected.

Uh, ya know.... That "thing" very often is a fractured rib. If it's not substantially better tomorrow (Saturday), it might be worth a call to your family doctor, just to be sure he doesn't think he should take a look.

But if it WAS a fractured rib (which I don't REALLY think it is -- it felt like it popped, not cracked), what, exactly, could a doctor DO about it? It's like a broken toe -- there's not much you can do in a hospital that you can't do at home.

Mostly he could make sure it is just a hairline fracture that isn't likely to result in a punctured lung, then give you something a bit better than your corset-vest to support it while it heals.

The "what could a doctor do" line of reasoning doesn't impress me much in general. It's precisely because a doctor will know, better than you or I, what can be done, that calling is a good idea. A phone call costs nothing and on occasion can prevent suffering later. Worst case scenario, he says "It's nothing, rest and forget about it." It's not as though you'd have to go sit in an emergency room for hours on end.

Listen to your auntie! I just got home from my retreat to hear this. Sorry you are hurting. I hope you are feeling better - and that you have seen the doctor already.

You popped out a rib, dude. I do it all the time. (I have asthma, every little thing makes me cough really hard.)

See your chiropractor, he/she will pop it back into place.
