So, people have been linking to the post where I tell my parents about the Octopus Designer. Which, y'know, is a good post and all, and shows how my parents are cool and scarier than I am. . .

But here's the thing. . . I'd assumed that everyone who reads my LJ had already been aware of the Octopus Designer theory, because I blogged about it back when I came up with the theory.

And, y'know, people did read that one and chuckle nervously, and I told [livejournal.com profile] mabfan that if he wants the idea for a short story, he can feel free to swipe it. It got nineteen comments, which is a lot.

But the one where I tell my PARENTS, that's the one that people link to, that's the one that gets a mention on [livejournal.com profile] _octopus_, [livejournal.com profile] team_tentacle, and [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes.

So, why does one get linked around more than the other? Well, for one thing, the latter one has quotes from my parents in it, who are generally much, much wittier than I am. It's just a better post. It's funny, as well as creepy.

The first post -- well, that was posted at 11 at night, as a way to exorcise the Midnight Creepiness -- THAT post actually had weirdness and fear behind it. I mean, I'm not saying I BELIEVE that theory, but, when I came up with it, it scared me, and I posted about it out of weird freaky fear.

The more recent one, though, that was one where I was sharing a weird and funny idea with my parents. So it's a little more human, a little more accessible. As well as being, well, funnier.

If I'm rambling and not making much sense, please blame the lack of two wisdom teeth; I'm only half as wise as I used to be.

Actually, I *wanted* to link to the original, but I hadn't put it in memories, so I couldn't find it. Also, the more recent entry showed you were still thinking about it.

I don't know what's scarier: that there is a community dedicated to octapuses, or that there are two. :-)

there is an additional community dedicated specifically to Octopus-PORN. I swear I'm not making this up. A friend posted a link recently.

One way or the other, I went and googled "ia ia cthulhu fthagn" after Dad asked what it meant. And I found out that there's an alt.sex.cthulhu

Eagh. And, unrelatedly, Achoo.

The Old Gods that Miaowara Tomokato goes up against (I forget where he finds the first; the second is in The Sword of Samurai Cat) are A'chu and Bl'syu. I may have spelled them wrong, at which point they will presumably get eldritch at me presuming they are not currently sashimi due to encounters with a heavily armed Japanese feline ...

Kachu (or Kchu) and B'lsyu, I think. I haven't read those volumes in a long time.

And, I forgot to add, the first one is in the first book. Samurai Cat?

Some folks did -- but it didn't, I dunno, reach a sort of "critical mass" that the second one did.
