From Lis's most recent email to me: "Honestly, I feel so at home in this city [London]. Just seem to be picking up an innate directional sense of where thing are. I'd love to move here if we could make it work."

Uh oh. . .

I envy your wife

I would love to spend some more time in London; it's quite the nice city.

It's a wonderful place, but is even more expensive than living in this area, if you believe it.

I find that always happens if I spend a few days in a city... my geography sense kicks in.

You know, you could REPLY to my emails

I'd love to hear your voice. Next best thing would be reading your words. As long as I'm paying for internet access, it would be nice to see an email from you every now and then... :) Love you.

I said that about Boston in 1998.

It's difficult to see the shortcomings of a place as a tourist.

I love London, also. Our honeymoon trip to England oh so many years ago felt like "coming home." Just remember, if you move there, make sure you have a guest room so I can get out of the worst of Boston winters.

Talk with [livejournal.com profile] lillibet. She and her husband lived in London for 2 years when he was working over there. I think they enjoyed it.

And apparently they had evnough visitors from the States that they were quite happy they had a guest room set up; they didn't go too long between visitors.

The big thing is the expense. I still haven't figured out how the Brits afford to live there, much less Americans at the current exchange rate. British salaries that I see advertised in papers are just significantly lower than US ones relative to the cost of things (looking at both in pounds).

Worried? Depends on how you feel about living in London... Also on how likely it is that you could make it work. I think there's something like a mandatory six-month quarantine for cats. You could ask Boopsie to comment on that, if you haven't already bought a new mattress.

Well, the current plan is to win the lottery, and buy an
$85 million luxury submarine, which we will ACTUALLY live in. And Boopsie can stay in the sub.

Actually, before the 2004 election, when I started thinking of emigrating, I realized I wouldn't move to London while Boopsie's alive precisely because of the quarantine, although I believe they've since changed regulations that pets may be brought in directly if you get certain health certificates from your vet. I'll have to check that...
