Answering machines

So, we have a pretty crappy answering machine. If it gets filled up, you have to unplug it and reset the time, date, and re-record the message before it will work again. It got filled up, and I have laryngitis, so Lis was going to record the answering machine message.

I got the time and date set, and then set it up to record.

ME: [in a hoarse croak] . . you ready ? . . .
LIS: Yeah, go ahead.
ME: [presses "record"]
LIS: [beat] BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *snork*
ME: [presses "playback"]
ANSWERING MACHINE: [beat] BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *snork*
ME: [in a hoarse croak] . . . that good, or do you want to re-record. . . ?
LIS: *glare*
ME: [presses "record"]
LIS: You have reached $PHONE_NUMBER. Please leave a message.
ME: . . . that was good, except that's not even close to our phone number. . . .
LIS: What?
ME: [presses "playback"]
ANSWERING MACHINE: You have reached $PHONE_NUMBER. Please leave a message.
ME: . . . what phone number is that one? . . .
LIS: . . . My parents'.
ME: [presses "record"] [in a hoarse croak] . . . this is ian, at the osmond-riba residence. i have laringytis, but even so, i'm recording the answering machine message because lis cracked up laughing then recorded the wrong message. please leave a message.

If it wasn't 11:43 pm on Saturday night, I'd call to confirm and then post a comment confirming or denying. But it is. Knowing them, I'd be willing to believe it, without hearing it myself...

Joy and I just recorded a new message on our machine. Not because of any technological problem, but because now that we've moved in together, the message of "Hi, you've reached [Goljerp]. I can't come to the phone right now, but if you leave a message, I'll get back to you as soon as I can" isn't relevant...
