So, Mom and Dad just got a new cable modem.

I want to see if I can make it so that she never has another productive moment again.

Okay, first link I thought of was Homestar Runner. She could start with this, although, since she was asking what They Might Be Giants have been up to recently, this or any of the Puppet Jams under Puppet Stuff in Toons might be good choices.

So, what else? I'm not sure if Mom's the right sort of geek to appreciate that much of Irregular Webcomic, or Casey and Andy, although I think Dad is.

Orisinal will probably be a good timesuck for her.

Any other favorite online timesinks?

Playing games on Orisinal, and watching Homestar Runner cartoons, actually.

Yeah, the Experimental Film video kicks butt. I also particularly love Teen Girl Squad and Peasant's Quest. But, God, everyone has to start at Strong Bad Email #1 and just keep working through them, which would take weeks off your life right there.

One of my favorite timesinks was Planetarium (http://www.beholder.co.uk/planetarium/), although it is a bit of a commitment because it is released in twelve weekly installments and so you can't spend a week offline in the middle of it without getting pretty whacked. And http://www.triddlers.com/default.jsp just swallows you alive.

Nope. I don't do that particular form of crack myself. IRC is bad enough.

Well, this is more for those who have gone or are planning on going to graduate school...

Does she have email? NEEDS an email account. And a livejournal account tends to help too! ;)

It's not an online timesink, but have you introduced her to Nethack yet?

I find The Straight Dope to be a huge timesink, especially if you read the Message Boards. Also Metafilter and Ask Metafilter.

Still, nothing free that I can think of quite compares to Orisinal when it comes to timesinks.

Xiphias, you are eeeevil! Did you think rebmommy would be the only one caught in your heinous trap? Now I'll never get any housework done. Next time you come over, bring a broom. Or maybe a shovel.

Oh, and she should draw herself in one of the online doll makers

And there's another online drawing tool (that lets you replay the drawing process) but I can't find it at the moment.

I want to thank all you helpful people out there

It is now after 3:30 PM - I had breakfast around 1 PM, am still in my PJs, have not washed dishes, made beds, or put things away from leading services last night. What have I done? Checked out HI haven't done any laundry... Oh, yeah - we don't have a dryer anymore. And I haven't done any of the research I was going to do to see which washer-dryer to buy. Hmm... that's something useful I could do on the net. But all your games and links are so much fun!!
