To Governor Deval Patrick, United States Representative Edward Markey, Massachusetts Representative Paul Brodeur, et. al:

On Patriots' Day, 2013, we witnessed a horrific event. But just seconds later, we saw the start of the greatest, most successful disaster response in history.

Together, we mourn Krystle Campbell, Lu Lingzi, and Martin Richard. And we empthize and share the pain and anger of all those wounded and crippled by this act. But at the same time, we stand amazed and proud at the bravery and skill of the hundreds of first responders, medical personnel, and ordinary citizens who saved the lives of 176 other wounded.

The planning, organization, professionalism, and skill on display was unprecedented. Never in history have so many greviously wounded been saved so quickly.

Patriots' Day is a celebration of the bravery of the men who stood against the British Regulars on April 19th, 1775. I propose that, from this day forth, Patriots' Day also celebrate the skill of the first responders and medical personnel of the Commonwealth, in eternal rememberance of their achievement on April 15th, 2013, and our unwavering stand against whatever person or people, foreign or domestic, individual or group, who ever attempt to terrorize us. Let Patriots' Day stand as a reminder that we need never bow our heads to fear, and let this disaster response stand as a beacon to the whole world to show how we can continue, head high and unafraid, through whatever we are faced with.

Let us forevermore honor and revere our EMTs, police, nurses, doctors, the military members who used their knowledge of battlefield wounds, the ordinary citizens who brought the injured to the medical tents, and all others who participated in saving lives and mitigating the horror we experienced.

With deepest pride in the People of this Commonwealth:
