Hypoalegenic stage makeup doesn't hurt. Removing stage makeup is annoying, but not seriously so.

I actually know the blocking well enough that I seem to be able to handle it without glasses, which deals with the "glasses glare" problem handily. It doesn't help the "watch the conductor" problem, of course -- although, since I can vaguely make out movement, I could occasionally pick up enough visual information to tell that Jimmy was giving us some sort of instruction. Haven't been able to tell just what the instruction WAS, but, oh well.

Iolanthe is a hella fun show. I knew that one before, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

There's actually a chance that we're going to totally kick butt and be truly awesome with this show.

There are people who live in my house whose lives suck infinitely more than mine right now.

It kind of defeats the purpose of being sent home an hour early from rehearsal in order to get extra rest if dealing with the emotions of being sent home an hour early takes four hours. After being sent home from the q2q at 11, I didn't actually manage to fall asleep until well after 3:30 AM. I am not working tomorrow, so I will sleep a lot. A whole lot. I feel like I'm coming down with something, but I should be able to knock it out by sleeping a whole lot.

I want to apologize in advance, btw, because I would freakin' love to come to the show (Iolanthe is my favorite G&S, among other reasons), but I have papers I have to write this weekend and I'm afraid I'm not going to have time.

*sudden pause*

Oh, ROCK, you're doing it next weekend, too! /Yay/!

Want an even easier, non-greasy way to remove stage makeup? Go to a supermarket that has a reasonably large skin care section and get a box of Olay unscented facial cleansing cloths. They're disposable cloth thingies that you run under warm water, work into a lather and then use to clean off the makeup. Two of them will usually do the trick for even fairly heavy makeup, and you can use them to get off eye makeup without any sting or getting your eyes all filmy the way cold cream makeup removers do.

Also, if no one's told you this: Shave shortly before putting your makeup on. It'll make it a *lot* easier to apply and remove. (I don't have this problem, myself, but I've done makeup for a lot of guys).

As for acting blind, I've done it for decades and actually find it kind of comforting; I can see enough to keep from bumping into people or things, but not enough to make out any individual people in the audience. For me, this is a Good Thing.

A couple of years ago I saw a production of Iolanthe that a friend was in (she played Iolanthe) and there was this guy who was playing one of the nobles who had this hanky that was always fluttering around off of one hand. Halfway through the first act, I figured out why: He was hiding 3x5 cards with his lines and lyrics on them. I saw a corner of a card pop up. It was quite distracting as every time he glanced down, I noticed it.

After the show I asked around and figured out through some casual questioning that he was not an understudy or last minute substitution. He was the guy originally cast in the role. Ouch.
