Jul. 31st, 2004 10:21 amI've got a nasty sore throat, which has been making sleeping difficult the last couple days. I checked our book "Take Care Of Yourself", which has flowcharts explaining when an illness is bad enough to go to the doctor, and when it can be safely handled through home treatment, and the only thing that it could be that a doctor COULD treat is strep throat, and I'm neither young enough nor old enough that it's worth going to a doctor before the strep has been going on for about a week. We're at about four days now. If it is still bad in three days, I'll make an appointment to get a culture done.
Mostly, sore throats appear to be a "suffer through it" sort of illness. Unless you're going to be singing or in a play or something like that, as some of my friends are, the only thing you need to worry about is dealing with the pain. Analgesics, hot tea with lemon and honey, salt water gargles, and steam are all suggested.
We've got slippery elm bark tea, as well, which wasn't mentioned in the book, but is remarkably useful.
