My day. Pretty dull, really.

So, I was working the day shift at the grill bar today. ("I was working the day shift out of the Grill Bar. My name is Friday. I carry a drink shaker." Naw, I don't think it would fly. . . )
We dropped our car off at the shop late last night for them to change the oil today. We've got lifetime free oil changes at our local repair shop -- you pay them a fee once and then you never need to pay them anything ever again for oil changes for the lifetime of the car. We got a phone call before 9 AM that it was all done and ready to be picked up. So we got the car and Lis dropped me off at the train so I could go to work. Oh, Lis had also looked up which libraries had recordings of Iolanthe.
I had my copy of the score with me to read on the train, and, as I was looking through it, the gentleman next to me, a black man about 65 years old or so, said, "Pardon me, is that Gilbert and Sullivan you're reading?"
I showed it to him, and told him that some friends of mine were putting on a production of Iolanthe, and had needed just ONE last baritone to get everything all filled up, so I auditioned and was gonna be in the chorus, and we chatted happily about G&S for the train ride. His favorite recordings are the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company ones. I also mentioned when the shows were, so we'll see if he shows up. That'd be cool if he did.
Anyway, work was remarkably dull today. Very, very slow. I spent much of the day watching World Series of Poker on ESPN2. I do my best to NOT have the news on at the bar when it's an election season. Seems like just asking for trouble. While people are quite willing to get into heated debates about Texas Hold'Em poker, it somehow seems less potentially explosive than political topics.
I also went through my score with a yellow highlighter and highlighted all the lines that baritones sing.
After work, I walked down to the Boston Public Library to see if I could get the CD of Iolanthe. I could, and it was, in fact, the D'Oyly Carte version, which made me happy. I found myself having energy, for no good reason, so I walked from the BPL to Downtown Crossing in order to catch the Orange Line. (Normally, one would just take the subway that's right AT the library to get home, but I wanted to walk.)
When I got to Oak Grove, I called Lis, but the phone was busy, so I walked home. Lis was napping, and the phone had been knocked off the hook. . .
That's pretty much my day.
The thing about my day that I really wanted to mark down was that I actually had ENERGY. I'm not used to that, but it's been happening recently.

My favorite is still Ruddigore. I wish my G&S group would do that again. *grumbles*
