Violet was sleeping in the bathroom sink. Lis wanted to know what would happen if we turned the water on. So we did.

Violet sat there, baffled, until we turned the water up higher, and she eventually moved. Then we turned the water off. And she went back into the sink and went back to sleep. So we turned the water back on. And she woke up and looked at the water streaming down her side, and went back to sleep. So we turned the water up higher. And she woke up again, and looked at the water, and went back to sleep. So we turned the water up even higher, and she started licking her side to dry it off. Not anywhere near the damp parts of her side, you understand -- just sort of randomly. By happenstance, she eventually started licking a part of her side near the part that was wet, and thereby stuck her head under the faucet.

This startled her. She was confused. So she did it again. It startled her again. And she did it again. It startled her again, and she stood up and turned around to see what was wet. And she leaned in to sniff at the water, and stuck her nose under the faucet.

At this point, Lis was having trouble breathing from laughing, so we stopped.

And that is how we know our kitten is dumb.

You cat stories are making me laugh so much! I'm sure my co-workers are wondering what the hell is going on!

Wow. This cat may possibly be even dumber than my gray cat was. I am impressed. :)

I don't know if I'd go that far -- I've HEARD stories about your gray cat. . .

Oh, the laughter... it hurts... also makes me feel better about Buster's repeated attempts to make friends with the other two older household cats, in which he jumps up onto the side of the bed where Kitten is curled, gets hissed and swatted at, falls off - and then does it again, four times (while I was watching and laughing helplessly). Poor Buster... he just wants to be friends!

I'm such a meanie.

I keep telling the kittens "Go play with Boopsie! Remember, she only hisses because she loves you!" as they trot up the stairs. Isn't it fun living with beasts who don't understand English? :)

I didn't name him that; I preferred Jet. He's at least part Maine Coon - an adorable tortoiseshell kitten, who gets bigger every day. And he's smart... he just really really wants the other cats to be friends with him. Poor kitten. *gigglesnort*

if you had added soap at some point, you might have gotten a clean kitty, which would be amazing from the stories I've heard of kitty baths..

The [livejournal.com profile] lilbluekittans used to *love* water, back when they were also small-and-stripey. I think you might have a Russian Blue on your hands, and if you do, she'll grow out of it at about the same time she starts liking catnip.

She's awfully cute, whatever she is.

And here I thought my cat was a sillykins for liking to hop into the shower to get his head wet off the dripping tap...
