I just finished the third book in Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries series. Yes, the series of books for pre-teen girls which has been made into two dreadful movies so far.

The books, on the other hand, are addictive.

Have you read "Ella Enchanted"? Yet another wonderful book for young girls made into a movie (not dreadful, but not great, either, and missing some of the best elements of the book) starring Anne Hathaway.

I haven't read Ella Enchanted yet, but I just saw the movie, and thought it was a delightful bit of fluff.

Of course, that's what I thought of the first Princess Diaries movie also. Not Great Cinema, and probably not even a 'watch more than once' movie, but I didn't regret the 2 hours I spent watching it when it was over, either.

I enjoyed the first pricess diary movie, it was cute but fun. I'm sure I will end up taking my step children to see #2, and I'm sure I'll find it cute and fun in a silly sort of way

Yep, we own it. As much as people I know liked the movie, I don't think I could watch it, because I'm just too fond of the book.

The book is a better story, no question. But, given that his character has no business whatsoever being in the movie, Cary Elwes does a wonderful job and makes up for a lot of the damage they did in the movie conversion. If you have the gift of taking the movie as a seperate work in it's own right, you'll probably enjoy it. Me, while I can sometimes do that, in this case, I would hate the movie if it weren't for Elwes.

I've been getting those out of the library, too. They are embarrassingly addictive. I sort of hope the librarian thinks I have kids...

Well, of course you like the series.
The lead character is a geek -- we can identify.

And the author is friends with Tamora Pierce whose work we already enjoy.

But we love you in all your lame glory.

Haven't seen/read The Princess Diaries, but one of my friends is in college with Anne Hathaway. Does that count for something?
