Ernie's Lunch is back!!!
Mar. 24th, 2004 02:26 pm"Ernie's Lunch" is the diner down the street from us. It's been closed for two weeks, because Pam's mother was dying, and she went up to New Hampshire to take care of her for the end of her life. But they're back now. I picked Lis up from work to go there for lunch. I had a turkey club, she had a two-egg omlette, hash, and hash browns.
It's diner food. It's the best diner food there is. I don't know how it is that they do these same sorts of simple foods so much better than everyone else, but they do. Best pancakes I've ever had, best omlettes, best sloppy joes, top five for hot dogs, top five for turkey clubs. Meatloaf, mac-and-cheese, hamburgers are all good, but not in the rarefied heights of some of their other things.
Most expensive thing on the menu is like $5.50.
Ernie's is among the reasons we bought the house we are living in. We looked at the house, and went to grab lunch somewhere to talk about it. We went into this little hole-in-the-wall diner. The food was superb, and the atmosphere was neighborly and friendly, and we decided that we wanted to live in a place that could create and support a place like that one.
