I actually was woken up today too and could not get back to sleep but it was by my boyfriend talking to my roommate and he later made me coffee and drove me to work...not something you are gonna get from a cat.
My late, lamented Elder Cat had me trained into a morning ritual: Two headbutts to the face, and I could get up, hoist her fat ass off the bed and pitch her out the bedroom door, closing it to keep her out, all without actually waking up.
Current cat is remarkable patient with sleepy human-types, although if I get up in the night to pee she assumes it's time for breakfast ...
