Me: So, Manuel, what've you got today for specials?
Manuel (one of the cooks for the grill bar): Dog's head. With marijuana sauce.

Marilyn (one of the waitresses): Is it true that Jewish men have the best senses of humor?
Me: Yes. Yes, that's true.
Marilyn: And they're good in bed?
Me: Yes. We are the best lovers there are. We are also good-looking, and very intelligent.
Marilyn: I've heard that Jewish men are hung even better than black men.
Me: I wouldn't know; I've never had sex with a black man.

Me, heading out: With great sorrow, I take my leave of you.
Palmer (one of the waitresses): My heart will pine for you until tomorrow when we will meet again.

Work is a lot more fun when you get along with your co-workers

It would be a bitch and a half of a commute for you -- an hour each way, for what's usually not much more than a four-hour shift. And it only pays like $12/hour. On the other hand, you've got more knowlege of wines than, well, everybody in Beverage. Put together. So you could certainly get the job -- basically, they're always hiring; it's just a question of how many shifts they can give to how many people.

Hmm. I don't think they need a dedicated wine-buyer. I don't think they do. But I can ask.

My current commute is already an hour each way, and 12/hour is more than I'm currently making. :P

If they could give me enough hours to equal a full-time job, that might not be a bad idea.

Failing that, [livejournal.com profile] mysterylodge is going to be up here jobhunting from xmas day through early january, and is looking for pretty much anything. So please do keep me posted. :)

40 hrs a week is not common. Orlando gets that; he's the head barback. Louis gets that; he's the nighttime grill bar guy. Tess gets that maybe half the time; he's probably the most skilled bartender I've ever seen, AND he's in the union, AND he's got mad seniority in the union.

It's rare for anyone else to get over 30 hrs a week.

But. . . if you'd like me to ask, I'll ask tomorrow. I can teach you everything you need to know to tend bar at the Harvard Club in about an hour.

If you're the sort of wine person Ian says... there's been an ad in the Globe for weeks now, looking for someone who can do wines and acccounting. Wanted to apply but I don't have the wine knowledge.
