The party went pretty well. Thank you, everyone who showed up! Lis freaked out for the first hour or so of it, then calmed down and had a wonderful time.

Work's been going well: Louis (the primary night bartender for the Grill Bar) has mentioned that he's going to talk to John (the beverage manager for the Harvard Club) about maybe having me have the Monday day shift permanently, if Cathy (the primary day bartender for the Grill Bar) decides to switch to a Tuesday-to-Saturday schedule.

I did beverage service in the Boston Room, the formal dining room of the Club; Janet, the head beverage person for the Boston room (the one who people say is maybe a bit grumpy, the one that I got along with fine when I worked the Commonwealth Lounge, which is where drinks for the Boston Room are made) thought I did well. On Monday, as I was leaving work, Janet was telling John that she was worried about Tuesday night, because she thought she was working by herself; John showed her that he'd scheduled me to help out, and her face completely relaxed. Apparently, "Ian's going to be working with you" is seen as a good thing, which is why Louis and Janet are both letting John know that they'd be happy if he schedules me in their areas.

I've had no time to exercise in the past like two months, and I'm now much more easily winded than before.

I appear to have gotten Dave, our tenant, a job at the Harvard Club. It'd be good if we can get him more hours, he's talked about maybe seeing if he can work for Banquets in addition to Beverage, so that he can get more hours. If he can get close to full-time there, then a month's rent would be only a bit more than a week's work. Which is not a bad situation to be in fiscally.

Um, that's about all of my life.

Every time I hear about the bartending going well, it makes me so happy! Too many people either settle permanently for work they don't like, or won't settle and don't work at all (or enough). No work is ever perfect, but having work you basically like is a big part of a full life.

That's fantastic, Ian

I'm glad to hear that it seems to be working out for you and that you enjoy doing it. Many folks aren't that lucky to do something they like. Power to you, and keep smiling.

Luck is important, but moreso I think are hard work, careful analysis, and creative thinking.

And possibly someone behind them giving supportive shoves in the right direction. :)

I'm glad it's working out well too. Still trying to figure out if I can bum my way in to see you on my Dad's status as a Harvard grad ...

Is there a gym at the Harvard club that employees can use? I find that going to the gym makes more time than it takes ... but then I don't have to worry about a commute since it's right here on campus.

Naw, the fitness center is members-only. There's not really enough room there for TWO fitness centers. Frankly, the fitness center is one of the reasons that I've been idly trying to figure out if there's a cheap way I can get to be a member -- if I could work out there, that'd solve stuff.
