And I didn't actually recognize every name I added...

That's kinda embarrassing. But, I figure, if someone's actually going to all the trouble of typing my name into their friends list, the least I can do is reciprocate. So, y'know, you can see the interesting stuff I post. . .

Okay, fine. So I mostly mark stuff "friends only" because it's boring.

But, if I just added you to my friends list, or vice versa, and your livejournal name isn't intuitively connectible to another name that I know you by, I wouldn't mind if you just let me know who you are. Just out of curiosity, and all -- don't feel obligated.

Hi, Xiphias. I suspect you don't know me at all, but I've been reading your posts on Usenet (alt.poly and, memory says rec.org.sca but memory has a habit of lying to me) for a while now.

Not rec.org.sca -- I'm not a scadian, although most of my friends are. My hangout newsgroups are, now, alt.poly; once upon a time soc.subculture.bondage-bdsm, and before that alt.sex.bondage (but not anymore); rec.games.frp.gurps, and some of the local New England groups -- ne.food, mainly.

Although it's certainly possible that I crossposted something to the scadian group.

hmm.. I had No idea you were into kinky stuff, too.. Cool! However, when you say once upon a time, does it mean that you have stopped being into it or just stopped frequenting that list. Or did it ever mean you were into it? oh dear, I'm overtired.. I have no idea what you're saying.. or what I'm saying. I should head bedwards. :)

I am kinky in the same sense that I am poly. I don't, in the last couple of years, get much chance to express it: I'm only involved with one person, who, herself, hasn't wanted to do anything kinked in the last several years. But, y'know, Once Upon a Time, ppl would phear my 377TE |>0/\/\ skilz. Okay, so I can't write BIFF. I was the person, however, who claimed that, "Anyone can be a scary and impressive dom wearing black leather. The question is: can you be a scary and impressive dom wearing a clown nose and Rocky and Bullwinkle boxer shorts?"

I left ssbb for a number of reasons, which come down to, "I didn't feel comfortable there anymore."

LOL, I was wondering what 377TE was.. I couldn't even parse that one ;)

The question is: can you be a scary and impressive dom wearing a clown nose and Rocky and Bullwinkle boxer shorts?"

Exactly. Well, it's nice to dress up once in awhile, but to me bdsm not about the clothes, it's the energy/power exchange. This sentence brings to mind the group of evil clown doms that were at TES last year. Very freaky. The fact that many people have clownophobia kind of messed up the point, I think. (giggle)

I was never on asb or ssbb. I preferred the bbs's like BDS back when people actually chatted on the bbs's, because those were the people I knew in person and partied with. I was and still am more active in the local Scene community in person than the online community.. That seems very odd to me since nowadays most of my community contacts for other groups are primarily online. Hmm.. must ponder.

Well, let's see.. I was not as technologically inclined, trained, or well set up when first getting into the Scene. I was on aol way too much back when it was $3.50/hr, but I didn't have newsgroups then or even a real ISP (ack!) I joined BDS and BFP in 92 and was there awhile. In 98 when I joined Patrick we didn't have AOL so I wasn't there when the local scene shifted from BBS's to AOL chat. Now it occurs to me that many people are using AIM instead, so what might be useful is the creation and propagation of a regular community chat name for interested folk to go to. Hmm.. pardon the outloud ponder..

<- heads back to bed..

Hi. I'm not a person on your friends list, but I play one on tv. You've never heard of me before (as far as I know), but I happened across your journal through my friends' friends list. I've added you to my list because I found your journal engaging and interesting, but don't feel obligated to friend me in return. I just look forward to reading what you have to write. :-)

one good thing ...

... about using the same old boring username I was assigned when I got my very first e-mail account: It's pretty easy to figure out I'm me. (-:

Presumably you remember me. :)

Hi, I'm Ford, and I didn't know you had an LJ until last week, and it's cool that you do, cause maybe it'll be easier for us to stay in touch now since our social circles seem to be on opposite edges of the local geekiverse.

Don't feel too bad about it -- a month ago I checked my "friend of" list, and found someone I didn't recognize. So I went and peered at his friends list, to see who he'd found me from; turned out that we didn't have any friends-list people in common. I went and read his journal, and came to the conclusion that I quite definitely didn't know him.

Nonetheless, he seems like an interesting guy (with posts about strange dreams, and defending the GPL as his day job, occasionally with some crossover), so I read his journal occasionally too.

Someday I suppose I should get around to asking him where he came from....

Hi there. I use the same username when posting to alt.poly. (I used to, anyways. I tend to just post as Brian, lately) You probably already knew that, but just in case...

Hi Xiphias!

Don't know if I was added this bout or not, but I'm Meredith, known from science fiction conventions among other places, and used to be Leda on Usenet, back when anon.penet.fi was still a going concern.
