Update on me as a bartender.

xiphiasOkay, I've been holding off on saying stuff, because I'm really superstitious, and I believe that I'll jinx myself if I say stuff too soon. But. . .
I interviewed at the Harvard Club, the new bar manager liked me fine, and said he'd ask around to see if people remembered me, and, if I got a good reccomendation from my former co-workers, I'd be hired. I got a call back a couple days later saying that everybody who'd been with the Harvard club in 1999 remembered me, liked me, and said I was honest and a hard worker, but I had only worked functions, and not the full bar. So, he said,he was going to give me a chance to see how I did behind a full bar, and, if I couldn't handle it, he'd put me on functions and barbacking, which everybody said I was fine at. And, if I could handle it, I'd get the Commonwealth Lounge 33 hours a week.
My first training shift is Thursday. I called up the club today just to check things out; Orlando answered the phone.
Orlando's the guy who taught me everything I know about barbacking. He's one of the most hard-working people I've ever met. I hope he's gotten more responsibility than he had four years ago; he was a barback then, but I hope he's at least a room manager now. He's smart, honest, hard-working, organized, and responsible.
So, I have to shave my beard off for the job. I'm a little annoyed by that; I like my beard, and think I look goofy without it, but this is the job I want, and it leads to the skills I want. Maybe, if I do well, I could eventually become an assistant beverage manager myself, which would give me more skills. Maybe even eventually a beverage manager.
And. . . once I have the skillset of a beverage manager, I can look at opening my own bar.
