I'm working on Deep Ecumenism as my paper for Jewish Renewal Thought this semester.
The Jews, and ALL our different movements, are still part of a single organ in what I will Gaia right now. Different jobs, but still necessary and need to work together. Just as the cardiac valve cells aren't the same as the cardiac muscle cells, they're both still needed in the heart. I'm impressed, and saddened, about how much of the American Jewish people I can see, are praying and helping Chabad after Poway Synagogue's attack, when among the Reform Jews I know locally, Chabad is usually treated like our Jehovah's Witnesses. Annoying but they mean well is the usual comment. That Chabad trained Rebbes were willing to teach me, was the first time some of them looked at their own biases.
But even a perfectly functioning heart can't be a liver, or lungs, or even skin. I'm afraid that Jews are, yet again, serving as the canary in the mine warning and nobody else is seeing us hurting in this poisonous atmosphere, or dying. :-(
