It's really too bad that Westeros doesn't have either Shakespeare or Euripides. Otherwise, Stannis might have some idea to be careful when a witch tells you to kill people because you're gonna be king, and your wife supports her in that, and also, that sacrificing your daughter in order to allow your army to move can have consequences.

Lis pointed out that Stannis no longer has any heirs. House Baratheon is gone after him. The Lannisters took down some of it, including hunting down Robert's bastards, but Stannis took down the rest. If he gains the throne, then what?

Actually, that's plausibly Melisandre's underlying motivation. Maybe she'll talk Selyse into sacrificing herself next, for good measure.
