Something Lis pointed out to me the other day:

At the moment, the only Protestant on the ticket for either major party is Obama. Biden and Ryan are Catholic; Romney's a Mormon. Of the nine Supreme Court justices, five are Catholic, two are Jewish, and two are Protestant (one Episcopalian, one just identifies as "Protestant"). Harry Reid is Mormon; Nancy Pelosi is Catholic. Eric Cantor is Jewish, and Mitch McConnell, as a Southern Baptist, is the only Protestant in the list.

Things have been changing.

Further evidence that the Lord made White Protestants because somebody's got to pay retail.

It's a war on religion, man!

Clearly. All those non-Southern-Baptists? I mean, the Founding Fathers specifically wanted only Southern Baptists to hold office. I mean, they obviously had to import their office holders from post-1830, but still.

(I hadn't known that the reason that there are Southern Baptists in the first place was that the Baptist church started working on an Abolitionist position. . . Southern Baptists exist in order to be pro-slavery. . . )

My understanding is in line with Wikipedia's that there are no Protestant Justices sitting today: six Catholics (Roberts, Alito, Kennedy, Scalia, Sotomayor, Thomas) and three Jews (Breyer, Ginsburg, and Kagan).

I worry a bit that the WASPs are bailing out.

They don't have to have governmental power because they already own the country. Oops... was that a snarky, prejudiced remark? Probably not even true, but I don't feel like fact-checking right now. Anybody else have the real story?

Changing, yes - but how? for the better?

On another note: an African-American comedian (I wish I had recognized him so I could give you his name) pointed out that the presidential race is between a Black man and a Mormon. He said that is like "Alien vs Predator".
