I don't know. I've only read, like, one Gor book, and that was when I was in junior high school, and I've not read any SHADES OF GREY, nor, for that matter, TWILIGHT. As such, I can make no first-hand comparison.
I merely know that the original work which was search-and-replaced into SHADES OF GREY was a TWILIGHT smutfic, people who've read it have called it second-rate, and SHADES OF GREY has made lots and lots of money.
