So, we saw BRAVE the other day:

I liked it; Lis didn't dislike it, and thought it was gorgeous, but thought it was light on plot. Which, of course, it is, but okay.

Did you notice that the witch looked, and sounded, EXACTLY like the witch from SPIRITED AWAY?

Also, as far as we know, she only has one spell: Turn Person Into Bear. This is supported by the fact that EVERY SINGLE THING she carved is a bear.


Merida's hair looks exactly like that of my niece Winter. And like my sister's did when she was Winter's age.

My sister's in town, and my mother and she went to see it together, which was a good choice, since it's definitely a mother-daughter movie. Even a mother-and-daughter-who-has-hair-like-that movie, so it was totally appropriate.

Yes, I quite liked that spin on the whole "be careful what you wish for" thing. Less "I will twist your words to grant your wish in a terrible way" and more "look, I'll have a go, but I basically just do bears."

The witch was my favorite part! I loved that she was clearly a MIYAZAKI-BORROWED BEAR SPECIALIST, with some supplemental magic powers. It's so not what Disney usually does with their magical characters and so fun for that reason.
