Being a product of the very early 50s music, Doo Wop and the Street-Corner A capella singers, and then, as a teen, the change from nearly all Black Groups to the influx of Elvis and Jerry Lee, I saw the change, during my High School years.
The final blow of the Splitting Maul for me, was the full-on acceptance of the Beatles - the change was complete. I still find stations on the Internet that play the old time Doo Wop and others that concentrate on the 50s, which I mix from time to time with Mozart and Blue Grass Gospel..
